Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27 )
Friends and future friends, I am so excited to finally be pursuing my passions– writing and healthy living! It’s taken a lot of prayer and a leap of faith to leave my job for a while to write full time and just be a mom– something my heart has craved for as long as I can remember. But here I am taking that first personal step to bring awareness and simplicity to families who are doing their best, but don’t always know where to begin. This is my passion and my ministry.
Family life is harder than I thought it would be. Juggling parenting with a full time teaching job– grading, lesson plans, extracurricular activities and duties, along with housework and marriage made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything very well. I can relate to feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, and burned out.
Even though I am passionate about raising my children with healthy habits, the thought of preparing anything beyond a frozen pizza became daunting. Add to the mix that I have the pickiest children on this planet who regularly balked at all my nutritious efforts!
Read that again– hours wasted on good intentions that NO ONE would eat!
What I’m trying to say is that I get it.
I get how hard it is to find good nutritious choices in supermarkets that are whole-food deserts with shelves laden only with processed foods containing pesticides, herbicides, chemicals and dyes.
I know how overwhelming it can be to keep up with the conflicting information about what is good, bad, or innocuous either way. I know what it’s like to look at a food label like it’s in a foreign language.
I relate to feeling like work got every last ounce of my failing energy and at the end of the day, my family got the pitiful scraps.
I feel you, mom. It’s not for the feint of heart– raising children in this chemical and digital era, in which both parents burn it from both ends all day.
But what if we could just start where we are and not be perfect? What if we could try to just make one small choice a week or a day that would move us one step closer to a healthy and manageable lifestyle for ourselves and our families?
What if we could just start here?
